Key Stage 3

In year 7, we introduce the students to French and the main vocabulary needed for everyday interactions.  We look at the foundations of French grammar, including the full conjugation of the verbs avoir and être, and introduce ideas such as grammatical gender, verb conjugation, present tense and adjectival agreement. We look at simple opinions to enable students to express themselves confidently. Towards the end of the year, students will be exposed to the wider French-speaking world in the cultural unit of Francophonie.

By the end of the year, we expect students to be able to write about 90 words in the target language, read a range of short texts on the topics covered, and become more proficient in listening and speaking French.
