Physical Education

Intent:

We aim to ensure all students in our community enjoy, learn, and engage with confidence in PESSPA.

We will use every opportunity to role model active participation and make physical activity habitual. Our extensive, inclusive extracurricular offer and high-quality, sequenced curriculum, structured assessment, and expert pedagogy will reinforce understanding. It will challenge perceptions of students' own limits. Students will not just survive in our school setting, but absolutely thrive in it. They will be inspired to value their own physical literacy for the rest of their lives.

Students will play, compete, lead, and organise sport, other activities, and events. They will develop employability skills that build character. They will experience our schools' TEAM values in practice and apply their physical literacy skills in high-stakes competitive environments. We will place emphasis on leadership skills by delivering standalone qualifications in PE lessons.

We will consciously play our part in averting the nation’s obesity crisis by educating students about fitness for life, health, and nutrition, applying this in every lesson.

Our Certification courses at KS4 and KS5 are inclusive, ambitious, and expertly delivered by a department that drives outcomes well beyond national averages for all demographics. These qualifications provide a fantastic platform for students to develop the necessary skills to secure university placements or begin a career in the sports industry straight away.
