Key Stage 3


Summary:

Students in year 7 study the development of Medieval England and the key changes in the Tudor era.  We begin their study of History from 1066 with the Battle of Hastings and how William the Conqueror established Normal rule in England.  Students study the influence of religion during the Medieval period on society and authority.  During the last section, the focus is on Tudor England and the impact of Henry VIII’s Reformation.

Summary:

Students in year 8 study the period from the English Civil War, through the Industrialisation of Britain, the growth of the Empire and then the First World War.  We begin their study of History from the causes of the Civil War with the establishment of a republic and its restoration. We then develop understanding of change and continuity through the Industrial revolution and the Victorian Era.  This leads directly into the outbreak of the First World War.

Summary:

Students in year 9 study the Twentieth Century, focusing both on Britain’s place and the wider world.  This explores Fundamental British Values and explores them in the context of wider political developments and ideologies.  Students study the challenge for political rights within Britain and the challenges to democracy in a wider context.  The studies then progresses beyond the Second World War to the challenges faced by the Cold War era.

  • Spring Term 2: The Holocaust.
  • Summer Term 1: Hot War to Cold War.
