In recognition of all the hard work that had taken place during the Autumn Term of 2012, the Year 11 pastoral team at gave students a special treat during the last period before everyone finished for the Christmas Holidays.

Only the 9 students selected as judges and compère were ‘in the know’ about the end of term entertainment; for the rest of the Year 11 students it was ‘Strictly Confidential’.

Upon entering the school’s main hall, however, the glowing image of a disco ball on screen, plus atmospheric lighting, gave the secret away and soon six ‘fabulous’ couples were strutting their stuff on the dance floor.

Bruce Forsyth wannabee, Assistant Head, Kasim Langmead, ably assisted by his glamorous compère, Jasmine Smith from Year 11, kept the judges in control, before the final winners were announced.  It was a close fought victory with Science teachers Mr Chris Henderson and Mr Leigh Hotchin just pipping ICT teacher Mr Paul Horrell and Science teacher Mrs Nicki Bovey into second place.  The judges all agreed that the winning duo’s combination of Salsa and Gangnam style dancing had stolen the day.

Head of Science, Mr Chris Henderson, commenting on his unexpected success said: “Mr Hotchin and I had been on a strict diet and exercise programme during the previous month. There had been many late nights, watching ‘Dirty Dancing’ and a bit of ‘Fame’.  I was worried about the lift but he held me well, then when we got into Gangnam style it was all about the freestyle. We just let our hair down and went for it to create perhaps one of my proudest moments in teaching.

As always the students were amazing, showing great support and enthusiasm at the end of a long term. We are just waiting to see footage on the next ‘You’ve been Framed’ or YouTube show.”
