Jaguar Cars Maths in Motion

Last term, Year 8 students Walter Stroud and Ed Gilford and Year 11 students Alex Ewings and James King took part in the Jaguar Cars Maths in Motion National Final. Earlier in the year both teams had won their county race and then followed that up in the semi-finals with a top 12 finish nationally that meant they had qualified for the National Final held at The Heritage Motor Centre, Warwick. were the only school to be represented in two age ranges and our teams competed against 34 other schools from all across the country and even a team from Paris! Both teams did tremendously well in qualifying in the top 10 but Alex and James (the reigning National Christmas Race Champions) did so well that they won their age range and came second nationally and missed out on first place by just 30 seconds! An incredible achievement given that there were over 100,000 entries!

For their efforts Alex and James won themselves personal memorabilia from the Nurburgring Circuit in Germany, a Jaguar Cars Maths in Motion clock, a Jaguar pen set, a trophy and certificate each and a construction kit from Rapid Education. For the school they won a class set of calculators, a Quizdom voting system and a big trophy and certificate.

The prize for first place that Alex and James narrowly missed out on included an absolutely amazing ‘Rookie Driving Experience’ at Silverstone Race Circuit, a chromium Jaguar Leaper and a day out at Jaguar Land Rover for themselves and 30 of their classmates.

So after an eleventh place finish in 2011 and a second place this year we hope to return next year and go one better!
