Eat My Goal

The tenth anniversary of the Friends of community school’s annual fundraiser ‘Eat my Goal’ took place at Kimberley Stadium, Saltash, on the evening of Friday 27th September.  Originally organised to help raise funds for’s bid to become a specialist school in 2003, the event has now become a much anticipated footballing challenge between two intrepid teams:  the staff and the parents.

A very large crowd turned out to cheer on this year’s players.  Overall it was an evenly matched game but the victors this year were the staff who won 3-1, with goals being scored by teacher of science, Mr Fionn Magnusson, and maths teachers Mr Carlton Farnham and Mr Gareth Jones.

In addition to watching an entertaining game of football, the crowd was able to purchase a range of refreshments organised by the Friends of School.  Sales of these, combined with a high gate entry, led to almost £1,000 being raised for school funds.  It is hoped the amount raised will go towards improving sound and lighting facilities in the main hall.

Speaking after the exciting match, the organiser of the staff football team, Assistant Headteacher, Brendan Lee, said,

“There were a few nerves in the changing room before the game, but we soon settled down once we kicked off. It was a fantastic match to play in – the atmosphere was incredible. Most importantly, the game was played in the right spirit by both teams. The parents threw everything at us this year, but the teachers battled through for a well deserved win. A superb evening all round.”

The school would like to thank Kimberley Stadium officials for allowing the teams to use their pitch, once again, and Plymouth Argyle for the loan of the kit.
