This week saw the final Elixel workshop take place for the Yr12 app development project at saltash.net. Elixel is a responsive website design and app development company set up by four University of Plymouth graduates, in response to a high demand for these services in the region. The culmination of a 2 month project, Elixel had set the 6th form students a brief to develop a festival app capable of storing data online. After setting the brief, the students were led through the planning stages by Gavin Jones, Managing Director, and Christian Cook, Creative Director, and were then tasked with designing the interface for the apps before the following session.

In January, the year 12 students were invited to the Elixel offices, where the four company Directors discussed the complete tendering process, scoping, analysis, design and building the app. The ICT students then received feedback about their design work from the client, before moving on to the University of Plymouth’s Institute of Digital Art and Technology (iDAT).  After a session in the Immersive Visual/Audio Theatre, the group had a further app development session in the Babbage Technology Labs, before returning to saltash.net.

The final session focused on testing the completed apps and running through the full range of testing strategies to ensure that these apps would be fit to launch.  Head of Curriculum ICT, Angus Reith, said, ‘We are very grateful for the expertise provided by the whole Elixel team, and very much look forward to working on projects together in the future.’
