Welcome return for children’s choir

The Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir from Uganda have made a welcome return visit to saltash.net community school on the last leg of their 2013 UK tour.

Ten members of the choir provided a stunning song and dance routine for spellbound Year 7 students, before leading workshops on African drumming, singing and crafts.

There was also an opportunity for staff and students at saltash.net to purchase African jewellery and other goods at breaktime on the day of the visit.

Jude Hollyman, headteacher’s PA who coordinated the visit said, ‘In 2011, saltash.net hosted the choir for a week and we still have some contact with the original members, so it was excellent to be able to welcome friends and colleagues of theirs from the same part of Uganda.  The choir’s performance was, once again, incredible!’

saltash.net will be holding a non uniform day later this term to raise money to support the choir as they return to their homeland.
