For the first time since its introduction, the saltash.net Sports Personality award has been presented to two students – Emily Hollister and Emily Sweet – for their excellent achievements in sport.
Head of PE, Rob Hawkins, could not separate the two students and their sporting accomplishments, deciding that the Pip Miller Memorial Award, donated by ex-governor, Ken Martin, in memory of his wife, should be presented to both of them.
Mr. Hawkins had the following to say about the two recipients of the award:
“Emily Hollister is one of the most talented football players that we have had at saltash.net and an amazing role model. She is mentally tough, committed, determined and reliable both within PE lessons and within a range of sports, involving herself in both leadership and coaching roles.
“As captain of her football team over the years she led by example and has regularly contributed to excellent results, scoring some fabulous goals and really setting the bench mark for girls’ football at saltash.net. She continues to push herself and now plays for Plympton Ladies in the South West division 1.”
“Emily Sweet is a superb all round consistent sporting performer. She always puts in 100% and never has a bad game.
“She is the ultimate tough team player, leads by example and is super hard working. She has incredibly high standards of herself in a sporting context and always fulfils her potential. Everybody needs a Sweet in their team and she epitomises everything that we promote at saltash.net within sport and PE.
“Her super positive attitude, coupled with never giving up, has made Emily a special person. She will be remembered for her grit, determination and positivity! She now regularly starts for Callington 1st team in the South West division 1.”
