Mr Budd and captain Jensen BryanSaltash.net’s Year 9 boys’ football team have been crowned Cornwall county champions for the second year running, following their victory in Thursday’s county final.

The side, coached by PE teacher Mr. Budd, defeated West Cornwall Champions Richard Lander 3-2. Saltash.net strode into an early lead, finishing the first half with a 3-0 lead, with goals from captain Jensen Bryan and 2 from Kieran O’Melia. The second half saw Richard Lander come back strongly, scoring 2 goals to leave saltash.net looking to hold on to a slender lead.

A fantastic defensive effort saw saltash.net maintain their lead, to avenge the final defeat they suffered against the same opponents in Year 7. The win marks an incredible record of 2 years unbeaten and only 1 defeat in 3 years in the same competition for the side.

To advance to the county final, the boys put in an excellent performance in the East Cornwall Championship final, beating a very strong Wadebridge team 3-1, with goals from Kieran O’Melia (2) and Leighton Poolman.

This victory follows the side’s success in the U13 tournament last year, where they secured a 2-1 win over West Cornwall Champions Mounts Bay Academy in a very exciting final.

Mr. Budd, who has coached the team for the past three years, was extremely proud of them.

“To win back to back titles is a huge achievement and no easy task with the high standard of schools’ football in Cornwall, with some very strong sides in the county.  Their sustained success is a real testament to the boys’ commitment and ability,” he said.

Massive congratulations to the students on their success.
