saltash.net was extremely pleased this week to receive a telephone call from Saltash Rugby Football Club coach, Lee Maher, advising that one of its Year 8 students, Dylan Layer, had been selected for the Exeter Chiefs England Development Squad. He is now one of 200 students nationwide training for the U13 England team.

County trials take place over a 4 month period, with players earmarked and put forward to England Development coaches who then make their choice. 20 players from across Cornwall were selected.

Saltash Rugby Club coach, Lee Maher, said, ‘It is great when a Prop gets noticed, as they work hard on the pitch but very rarely receive the recognition: Dylan always gets his head down, is aware of his positioning, and has good hands, he is a credit to the team.’

Head of PE, Rob Hawkins, said, ‘This is a fantastic achievement for Dylan. He works incredibly hard at his rugby and to be rewarded with an opportunity to further his game with some of the best coaches in the country at this level is fantastic for him. I am sure he will go from strength to strength. Really well done Dylan.’
