Yesterday, an online game of ‘Manhunt’ was launched by the English Department to raise awareness of the importance of Literacy in improving life-chances and to raise money for the charity ‘Room to Read’ which buys children’s books for schools in the developing world. Between 8th and 18th December, students can log on to manhuntsaltash.wordpress.com to discover clues that require them to use their literacy skills in order to retrieve information linked to a planned ‘kidnapping’ of a member of saltash.net staff! If students can successfully solve the clues and uncover who will be ‘kidnapped’, where and when the ‘kidnapping’ is planned to take place and who the suspected ‘kidnapper’ is, they win the game!
Organised by Teacher of English, Jen Dunkey, it is hoped that the game will not only raise crucial funds for charity, but will also remind students how important and life changing their literacy skills are, in a fun way!
Students who wish to take part in the online ‘Manhunt’ can buy an orange ‘Room to Read’ wristband for 50p (from Miss Dunkey in Room 23), with all proceeds going straight to the charity who will use them to buy books for school libraries in parts of Africa and Asia.
