German A Level a cake walk for saltash.net students

A Level German students at saltash.net have continued their tradition of participating in a fiercely contested German Bake Off, following the success of last year’s competition.

Year 13 student Dan Frankland emerged triumphant, wowing the judges with his Haselnusstorte (Hazel nut cake). Tom Pickersgill and Mia Stern came 2nd and 3rd respectively, after producing Kaesekuchen (cheesecake) and Sachertorte.

The Bake Off was overseen by Mrs Kramer and Miss Markie, both of whom created their own delightful cakes. This year’s judges were Mrs Benzie, Mrs Briggs, as well as a group of our language leaders, who scored the entries on their presentation and taste.

Mrs Kramer was impressed by the high quality of desserts created.

“This year the 6th Form bakers have really been exceptional. The choice between the labour intensive Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte (black forest gateau), the traditional Austrian Sachertorte, the fabulous muffins and brownies, the ‘uber rich’ Nuss-Marzipankuchen and the creamy Kaesekuchen made the judging a really hard task.

“Our 4 language leaders Matt Getson, Jemima Budd, Molly Gill and George Edge supported by Mrs Benzie and Mrs Briggs had the arduous task to taste, re taste and re- re- taste all the cakes. Well done!” she said.
