Year 13 student, Eloise Spencer, from saltash.net community school, has become the proud winner of Falmouth University’s 2014 Young Writers’ competition. Shortlisted along with two other 6th Form students from saltash.net – Kieran Brimicombe and Amy Kyffin – Eloise walked away with the main prize at an Awards ceremony held at the University on March 14th.

Written as part of her A Level English Language coursework, Eloise’s short story entitled ‘When Darkness Comes’ was written in the psychological thriller genre. Her prize for winning the competition was £75 of Amazon vouchers and the reward of knowing that her original work is to be published.

A Level English Language teacher, Cassie Langmead, said, ‘There were only seven students shortlisted for the Award from across the whole of Cornwall, so to have three from our school is an excellent reflection on the quality of written work being produced. Eloise is justifiably a proud winner – it is a fantastic achievement!’
