Key Stage 3

Year 7

Aims:
To enjoy Mathematics, to learn through group based resource learning, playing lots of games, increasing confidence and hardly a textbook in sight. To teach the pupils the functionality of Mathematics.

Knowledge and Understanding/Skills
Assessing each pupils progress in six areas
Number, Calculating, Shape space and measure, Algebra,
Handling Data and Using and Applying Mathematical skills.

Assessment:
A level based assessment and the end of each term with a national progress test at the end of the year.

Homework:
Set by each classroom teacher in accordance with the school homework timetable, set once a week lasting for about half an hour.

Revision:
All pupils given a login to mymaths.co.uk

Year 8

Aims:
To further enjoy Mathematics, to learn through group based resource learning, playing lots of games, increasing confidence and hardly a textbook in sight. To teach the pupils the functionality of Mathematics in everyday life.

Knowledge and Understanding/Skills:
Assessing each pupils progress in six areas
Number, Calculating, Shape space and measure, Algebra,
Handling Data and Using and Applying Mathematical skills.

Assessment:
A level based assessment and the end of each term with a national progress test at the end of the year.

Homework:
Set by each classroom teacher in accordance with the school homework timetable, set once a week lasting for about half an hour.

Revision:

Year 9

Aims:
To start the GCSE course, pupils will either sit the Higher or Foundation tier of the GCSE. They will have completed approximately 50% of the course by the end of year 9.

Knowledge and Understanding/Skills:
Pupils will build on the six aspects of Mathematics that they have learned in years 7 and 8. They will be given the opportunity to take these strands up to grade 9 in the new GCSE levels.

Assessment:
Build into the scheme of work are regular assessments covering exam type questions. These assessments allow the student and the teacher to check on the progress that the student is making.

Homework:
Homework will be weekly and set on the relevant homework day.
