Teaching groups are set according to ability in English and Maths from the beginning of Year 7.  Language groups are set according to ability in Years 8 and 9.  All other subjects are taught in mixed-ability classes, with the exception of DT.

In Year 7 Integrated Learning forms a substantial part of curriculum time. This provides all students with the opportunity to develop learning skills within an enquiry-based framework. It is a key part of our intention to ensure that all of our students develop the skills and qualities to become successful learners, as well as to smooth the transition into secondary education for them as they move from our partner primary schools.

Key Stage 4

Year 10

Detailed information about specific subjects can be found under the Curriculum by Department drop-down menu.

During Year 9 every student chooses to follow one of the following 3 pathways for their Year 10 and 11 studies. Students are carefully prepared for making their choices with appropriate advice and guidance.

Key Stage 5

Detailed information about specific subjects can be found on the school website under the Curriculum by Department drop-down menu.

Student choice almost completely determines the shape of the post-16 curriculum. The range of subjects shown below is in place from September 2017.

Most students in year 12 will follow 3 courses over their two years; they will be allowed to study 4 for a period of two weeks to help them ensure that their choice of 3 is right for them. Subjects are allocated 9 or 10 periods of teaching per fortnight. With the exception of those following a re-tke course in English or Maths, all year 12 students will be required to complete the Extended Project Qualification over 1 year.

Most students in year 13 will follow three level 3 courses, having reduced from 4 in year 12. Subjects are allocated 8 or 9 periods of teaching per fortnight.

A structured programme of Careers Education and Guidance is provided for all sixth form students (from January of year 12 to December of year 13) and there is the opportunity for all students to access an accredited Sports Leadership course. Wednesday afternoon in each week is reserved for this activity, as well as for Games.
