Cooking classes enables school community collaboration

A new initiative launched by saltash.net, named ‘Cooking with Parents’, aims to help staff and the school community work alongside one another to help improve the school.

The first session took place on Monday 5 November, with students, parents and staff working together to create a delicious meal, all whilst discussing ideas for school improvement and listening to parental suggestions.

There were a number of suggestions made at the event. For example, some parents requested a crèche during Parents’ Surgeries for younger siblings to attend, or a parent workshop fully explaining Show My Homework, and whilst most of the parents who attended liked the new systems in place to support communication between home and school, they have suggested letters being emailed home rather than sent in school bags. We are busy working on all of these suggestions.

Under the tutelage of our brilliant Food Tech teacher Mrs Noble, parents and their children cooked a Catherine wheel toad-in-the-hole, followed by a toffee apple bread and butter pudding. All food was donated by Waitrose and Partners and our sincere thanks goes to them for their support.

We’re looking forward to the next session: Bolognese and cheesecake for pudding! Yummy.
