saltash.net community school was delighted that one of its former students, Everest Mountaineer Ed Buckingham, returned as Guest of Honour for the annual celebration of 6th Form Achievements in 2013. A large number of students who were in Year 13 during the school year 2012-13, were able to attend the event, accompanied by family and friends, and they were pleased to receive their examination certificates and other awards from Ed, after he had spoken with them about his challenge to climb the highest peaks in the seven continents of the world. He told those present that having successfully completed 6 out of the 7 climbs, all that remained was to climb Vinson Massif in Antarctica. He was due to set off on this final challenge on Boxing Day. He congratulated everyone on their academic successes and encouraged all of the young people present to continue to aim high, setting themselves appropriate challenges throughout their lives and careers.

Mrs Bryce, headteacher, Chair of Governors, Kate Waghorn, and Head of 6th Form, Nick Scantlebury, also took the opportunity to congratulate the ex-students on their excellent A Level and BTec results, as well as thank them for the outstanding contribution they had made to the broader life of the school, especially with regard to voluntary service and charity support.

Musical entertainment was provided by Paul Armer, who is now studying Live Music at the University College Plymouth Marjon.
